Have you ever thought about becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah as an adult?

Not all of us had the opportunity as 13-year-olds, for various reasons. Here at THZ, we have had the honour of offering this unique opportunity for our members to come together over an 18-month period to study Hebrew and Judaic subjects as adult learners, with the goals of learning to lead services, chant Torah, make lasting Temple connections, and strengthen our community.

Each of Temple’s Adult B’nai Mitzvah classes has been a unique combination of personalities, ages, and reasons for participating. If the time is right for you, we invite you to consider this journey.

We will have an information meeting on Thursday, October 30 at 7:30 pm at the Temple, at which time we will be able to share more details about curriculum and costs.

Classes are expected to start at the beginning of January 2026 and will take place on Thursdays from 7–9 pm. Initially, we will meet on zoom and then switch to in-person sessions in the Spring of 2026 (when weather conditions are less of a challenge). You will be called to the Torah as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, October 30, 2027.

What you can expect:

• Hebrew study at your level.
• A range of Jewish topics taught by an amazing line-up of guest teachers and our Har Zion clergy. 
• Creative class celebrations of holidays.
• New Temple friends!
• An opportunity to learn, grow, and challenge yourselves as engaged Jews.
• And of course, a celebration with your family and friends on October 30, 2027.
