Hi Brothers:
When you get this email, I hope you are cooling off in a pleasant area with a cool beverage in your hand! That is the best way to handle this summer weather!
I just received the following note from Brother Stanley Gordon, “Next Shabbat, August 3rd, Stanley Gordon will be getting an aliya to recognize his 65th birthday. After the service there will be an enhanced kiddush and dessert. All members of our Brotherhood family are invited.” Stanley has made it to the golden years which is something that not all are privileged to do. So, kudos and a hearty Yasher Koach to him. And thank you for wanting to share your simcha with your Brotherhood family! That’s this comingSaturday or Shabbat, August 3 at 10:30 AM.
The news from the medical front is promising. I just got off the phone with the feisty David Bergart who is now at home saying “I’m trying to stay away from doctors.” David is preparing for a future surgery as if he has not had enough. You can reach him at 416-618-5971. Staying on medical row, I called Bernie Fox at 416-846-8900 to see how he is doing and I received a text noting “Sorry, I can’t talk right now.” Bernie is busy, at home on weekends and is coming along.
I must say that I think of these two gentlemen as stalwarts and heroes. They have been through hell and have kept their spirits up. Not everybody can do that so kudos to Bernie and David, and to their wives, Norene and Sue for being their rocks. And as proof of this wonderful spirit, Dave demanded that I give him Bernie’s phone numbers so he can call him. They used to do Meals on Wheels together. Both men are possessed of this generosity of spirit which sustains them in times of need!
Looking ahead to the future, we are very excited to announce we are kicking off the shul year with Dr. Julie McIntyre, MD, CCFP, FCFP, a retired doctor and noted scientist who will be joining us September 19 at 7:00 PM to share her ground breaking presentation on Advance Care Planning and End of Life Issues. We will be inviting the whole congregation to join us as this is a topic that needs to have a bright light focussed on it for our own good!
So book it!
